Motion Technique
All motions should be performed with
stiff arms and sharp transitions. The more you practice the better
your motions will become. The best way to practice these motions
is by watching yourself in a mirror. Hold each motion, squeezing
your muscles as stiff as possible for 30 seconds. Next let your
arms go limp at your sides for a second or two. Finally, close your
eyes and try to hit the motion correctly again, without looking.
Look in the mirror to see the result. The reason for doing this
is to train your muscles to hit a perfect motion every time. If
you are double jointed, don't give up! It might take a little longer
to train your muscles but it can be done! The following shows some
of the more basic motions. Many other motions are combinations of
what you will find on this page.
HANDS ON HIPS - This is pretty self
explanitory. You place your fists on your hips.
DAGGERS (TABLE TOP) - arms bent,
forearm directly in front of bicept, should be in front of you,
not to the sides, keep fists in straight line with forearm
HIGH V - just like it sounds, as
for your fists- the side with your thumb and pointer finger faces
the crowd
LOW V - opposite of the High V
LEFT DIAGONAL - left arm looks like
a High V, right arm looks like a Low V
RIGHT DIAGONAL - right arm looks
like a High V, left arm looks like a Low V
LEFT L - arms form an L shape toward
the left, top arm has the "pinky" side of fist faces the crowd,
side arm has thumb and pointer finger side of fist faces the crowd
RIGHT L - arms form an L shape to
the right, top arm has the "pinky" side of fist faces the crowd,
side arm has thumb and pointer finger side of fist faces the crowd
"GO" MOTION (named because it's usually
hit on the word GO) - right arm straight up, next to your ear, left
arm on hip
TOUCHDOWN - both arms straight up
next to ears, the "pinky" side of fist faces the crowd
LOW TOUCHDOWN - opposite of touchdown,
arms slightly in front of the body, thumb and pointer finger side
of fist faces the crowd
T MOTION - arms look like a T, thumb
and pointer finger side of fists faces the crowd
HALF T - arms are in a shorter version
of the T motion, arms are bent it to the chest with fists resting
right in front of arm pit, the "pinky" side of fist is forward
LEFT K - you put your left arm up
like a high v and your right arm across your body
RIGHT K - the opposite of the left
k, you put your right arm up like a high v and your left arm across
your body
Combination Motions
There are so many combinations you can create from the above basic
arm motions. Just experiment and have fun!
In this motion one hand is on the
hip and the other is in a High V type motion
This motion has one hand in a T motion
and the other in a Half T motion, and is usually called a "Bow and
Arrow".
One arm is in a Touchdown Motion
and the other is in a Low V type motion.
Leg Positions
These are a few basic leg positions. Leg positions can be mixed and
matched with any arm motion.
When you have your feet apart remember
to keep your toes facing toward the crowd.
When in the "Liberty" position the
foot that is up should be right along the knee of the other leg.
Remember not to flex your foot!
In the lunge, remember that the back
foot should face the crowd and the front should create a 90 degree
angle (or box) with the back foot.
